Yesterday we visited the story of an unlikely champion: a racehorse named Seabiscuit. He was too small, the jockey was too big and blind in one eye – and yet, against all odds, this scrappy horse and rider won the coveted Triple Crown in 1939. Seabiscuit’s owner, trainer, and jockey all learned rich lessons as they chose to see promises in the midst of their problems.

In an effort to help the horse remember how to be a horse, the trainer had the jockey run Seabiscuit in open grassy fields. They took him back to his roots. Back to a place where space was plentiful and restrictions were but a simple fence. Back to a place of wild freedom. And by doing so, they awakened a fresh spark of purpose in the heart of the stallion.

He went on to be a champion that ran like the wind, changed the lives of three broken men, and inspired a knotted nation that was bound by tangles of a dark time: the Great Depression.

At one low point, however, the owner felt the horse was too wild… wild with rebellion and stubbornness… too damaged to keep… untamable and unusable. The trainer, a broken outcast himself, came to the defense of Seabiscuit by protesting to his frustrated owner, “You don’t throw a whole life away just cause it’s banged up a little.”

He saw promise in the midst of their problem.

And so it should be with you and me. In Romans 8, the apostle Paul assures us that no matter what we are up against, as followers of Jesus Christ – we are equipped in Him with all the power needed to overcome. “In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

More Than Able

There are times we all struggle to see hope. Times when we want to throw in the towel, throw up our hands, and run the other way. Times when we believe our children are too far gone, our workplaces are too insufferable, our relationships are too complicated, our finances are too overwhelming, our marriages are too fragmented, and our health difficulties are too painful. What can we do in these times? Fix our eyes on God’s promises and provision instead of on our problems.

Mountain Maker

The richest lessons of life often come from the most painful pits we pass through. Pastor John Piper, in his book Desiring God, said it this way, “God, in love, will use whatever trials are necessary to intensify our savoring of his glory.” Every ounce of every struggle you face can be used to bring honor and glory to God if you will allow His grace to meet you in your weak and weary places. In Christ, and because of His perfect love – courage, hope, and strength are fully accessible each time you look to God in the midst of your problems.

Remember? You are born to be wild. Wild for Jesus. Wild with confidence and courage to press through resistance because of His faithful, redemptive love. Wild with purpose. Wildly surrendered to the will of God. Wildly obedient to His commands. Wildly led by the power of the Holy Spirit at work within you.

Take this to heart and remember who you were born to be. Believe beyond your brokenness today, knowing that God won’t throw a whole life away just cause it’s banged up a little.

Dear Lord, Your love is wild: untamable, unstoppable and unbreakable! Pour Your grace, healing, and strength on every struggle, weakness, and banged up area of my life. Help me to rise up and live with a wildly confident and courageous faith. In Jesus’s name, amen.

FOR YOUR REFLECTION and RESPONSE:

    1. Dear Elizabeth: Getting the news of lung cancer must have been a shock to you and now with your treatment you must feel like this is all soreal but please keep the faith and know that you are loved, being prayed for and God sees all things and works to the good of all things. If I may offer you some information as a nurse and one who had breast cancer, the oncologist may stop your treatment until your enzymes come back up and then start it up again. Thank you again for your encouraging message. Love you my sister in Christ xoxo

        1. Elizabeth – it really means a lot that this journey is not one that we do alone. God does not let us go that easy and for me cancer was his knock – what a wonderful gracious loving God that He gives us the things we really need to be our “true self” in His image.
Love you too sister in Christ. Thank you for sharing your email address – I’ll look for it – mine is skinnerrosem@gmail.com. If there is anything you find confusing, scary or would like to talk about my prayers and a listening ear are here for you. xo

  14. Thank you for the encouraging devotional. I ask that you please pray for me that God enlightens and guides my career path. I want to be a hospice chaplain and unfortunately a Bachelors Degree and six month internship is not sufficient. I need to go back to college again and obtain a three year Masters Degree in Divinity. I am losing some hope and feel the education requirements and lack of finances for graduate school has closed the door on being able to become a chaplain. I do visit the sick and elderly every Sunday as a volunteer with my church for the past 30 years and I am blessed. Please pray for me. Thank you very much.

  15. Thank you for opening His messages, and promises to us. Upon reading Romans 8:1-28-39, I am confused about “who are the called” in verse 28-30. Is this referring to “them that love God meaning anybody, or to them who are the called” or does the wording “the called” refer to the “predestinate” which is also referred to in verse 30. I’m finding these three verses confusing and to my understanding mean to those other than the ones who love God (anyone). How can I resolve the different meanings here or am I just reading this wrong? Please help to explain as I trust that in this blog, honest searching for understanding is welcomed. God Bless xo.

  16. Asking for prayer for my grandson Cody. He is going through a difficult time finding a job and dealing with stress. Prayers for my sweet Ashley, she is having a surgical procedure tomorrow morning. Thank you so much, I am so excited to have found your devotional page.

Please pray for my deliverance from the strongholds of addiction to reading the news (CNN & FOX); celebrity gossip; for my son and daughter from watching youtube minecraft videos all day; from for my guilt from marrying a Catholic knowingly; from rebelliousness (my son won’t do what we tell him to do, like eat or get a haircut, or sit at the dining table, or do his writing exercises-he’s already 9 years old); from domestic abuse (yelling and screaming and cussing within earshot of kids); for a Christian pastor or counselor. Thanks.

  18. Lord, I too am like the owner’s of Sea Biscuit, struggling to see my true worth. Today, I am banged up, bruised, tired, worn and struggling. Lord, help my unbelief, help me to see the good in every challenging situation, help me to see that the glass is half-full vs half-empty. I need a word Lord, I need to be renewed, revived and restored. Only you can be do these things for me, I am seeking you daily and diligently..

  20. Thank you for your devotionals they give me hope in my hurting situation. Please for my thoughts and these strongholds in my mind. I am having a hard time staying positive since I have hit rock bottom and can see no way out, but I know there is a way out through Him. So please pray that my mind can be at peace and that my broken heart can be healed. I know that nothing is impossible with God I just want to truly believe it. Thank you.

    1. Dear Ashley Marie – my prayers for peace, healing of a broken heart are being offered up to our Heavenly Father for you so that you will know Him and follow Him with your own heavy cross. Surrender to Him (for me this is what I truly had to do) and know that His Son has taken on “all of our sins” and know that He has come to give us a spirit that makes us not afraid but a spirit of power and love and self-control. “commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans” Proverbs 16:3. GIG xo

  21. That you for the last 2 devotions they were truly amazing. I love reading Girlfriends in God, they are all so powerful, I can so see the Holy Spirit in all of them I read, thank you for taking the time to do what you are called to do and touching so many. I really could use some prayers as well. I have been looking for a job for a very long time. I am divorced, so I depend on myself for an income and with everything online these days, it’s truly has been so hard to find a job. I would love to be in a job where I truly can make a difference in people’s lives, I love being around people and learning from them as well. Life has not been easy this summer, I lost a dear friend to cancer and my best friend has overlain cancer. I am trying to stay positive but it’s hard too, I know the Lord has a plan for my life, it’s just difficult to see that right now. So any prayers would be so helpful and grateful. It was such a blessing to find your website, I can’t thank the Lord enough, I love every devotion I read, they do make a difference in my life. Thank you and God bless you. KrisAnn

    1. Dear Kris Ann – my prayers are offered up to our Heavenly Father for you in your journey to find a job, healing of your broken heart and help to carry your cross. I pray that you find comfort in His words so that you will know that whatever affliction you are going through – it is not uncommon to man but we all go through and are called to encourage one another and love one another so that we find His strength that is sufficient. God bless you and “commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans”. GIG xo

  22. 27 months ago, my husband of then 18 years decided to walk out. He said he was done and wanted out. He never would give me a real explanation as to why. I asked if it was someone else because as much as that would hurt, the not knowing why hurt worse. He lied to me and said that there was no one else. I found out from one of my two sons that he was indeed seeing someone else and that he had requested that neither of my boys tell me about it nor who it was. He said that if I found out who it was, he was afraid that I would cause her bodily harm. Now I have been saved by the grace of God since I was in high school some 20+ years ago and even before then, I was not a violent person nor am I now. My children’s father has told both of my teen-aged boys a lot of lies about me and has my older son convinced that his relationship with my old college roommate is OK because the marriage was over the day he left. My children now have a half-sister that is almost 20 months old. We have been going through a long divorce process that for the life of me, I can not figure out why it is taking so long. My oldest son has now graduated from high school and is about to start college. My younger son is starting his junior year in high school. God has put a wonderful God-fearing man in my life and I want to be able to spend the rest of my life with him, but alas, this awful divorce does not seem to have any end in sight. I am asking for prayer that this divorce ends soon. I pray that the man I have met and I continue to seek God’s plan for our lives and that He helps to heal the wounds that have been created in my children and myself. Thank you all so much for all the prayers, devotions and thoughts. Your sister in Christ Jesus,
    Cheree’

  23. I really needed this! Lately I have been feeling so defeated, a person with no purpose. This Saturday 8/15/15 I take a comprehensive test to finish up my bachelor degree and I’m mentally exhausted. I’m even having doubts that I still want find a job after finishing college. Please pray for me! I don’t want to feel defeated or broken or someone with no purpose. God I give it all to YOU!

  24. I’m 15 years old and I need prayer. I have a huge crush on the movie actor Hayden Christendom. I wake up thinking of him and I fall asleep with his face in my mind. He is starting to take the place of God and so I need prayer to once again put God on top again and knock Hayden down. May the Lord be with you all.

  25. I need prayer for my daughter Jackie Myers whose 4 year old son who has been diagnosed as Autistic. He is unmanageable and refused to eat but a tiny bite occasionally. Cries uncontrollably and rocks back and forth., She needs
to become stress free and knowledgeable about him. Thank you for prayers

  26. Thank you for your emails that I receive daily , they have brought me hope. I am currently facing trials , within the last 2 weeks my marriage has ended and I have had to move house and I feel weak and worn out. I love my husband but he has choose a different life he has addiction issues and unfortunately It has lead him
down a different path , he is still walking with the Lord but feels that he cannot
get set free. during our marriage there was physical, mental and emotional
abuse I believed in my marriage vows byt became so unhappy as I was no
longer a priority in his life and felt no love from him. He choose to leave. I pray
for him daily and for my marriage I am unsure what plans the Lord has for us
both and our marriage can I ask fro prayers for direction for both myself and
my husband that if it is the Lords will that he will bring us back together if it is not
His will that He gives us both the strength to let go, Our marriage has been very
difficult since the day we took our vows so we have questioned was our marriage ever of God . thank you Kirsty

    1. Hi Kristy. I don’t want to begin to say that I understand exactly how you feel, but please be assured that you are not alone. I have gone through some very similar yet very different situations as you described above. I too believed wholeheartedly in my marriage vows. I believed that no matter what type of emotional abuse I went through, God’s plan was for me to stay married and to learn how to work things out. Let me tell you, I failed miserably. I must commend you for praying for His guidance as this is something that I on the surface of my heart would try occasionally, but deep down, I knew that I was not giving my marriage over to God. I do not know what God may have planned for you and your husband, but I pray that whatever His plan may be, that He gives you both a listening heart so that you can follow His plans and not create your own.

  27. Thank you Gwen and all the GIG ladies, for such and amazing daily devotional. It so richly blesses me, I truly look forward to my morning time with God and you ladies! (my hubby loves them too, shhh ;p ) Today I am asking that you would lift up my son, Jeremiah, in prayer. He is a heroin addict. He was clean for some time, but is back on it and doing really bad.I have been praying for him fervently, for almost 2 years, that he would fully commit his addiction to God and allow God to heal him and use him for His glory. I am hoping that this will be Jeremiahs “broken into beautiful” Please pray for Gods protection over Jeremiah and this evil drug and that he will fully commit this to God and allow God to use him. Please also pray for clarity and obedience for us on how to help him and not enable him. My hope is in God and I know that God has this!!!

I am a single mom of two beautiful children and it has been a struggle. Please pray for us as I am deciding on making a major move God willing by the end of the year. I feel that change will be a good thing for us all but of course I am scared by doing this alone. I pray that God will reveal that this will be the right decision for me to make to better the lives of my children.

  32. I had a conversation last night with my son that broke my heart. He is having severe doubts about God and how He can truly be a good God if He allows such suffering. This devotional was the perfect thing to share with him. God is using you in so many lives. Thank you Gwen for your faithfulness to God and His Word. Blessings to you. Please pray for my son, his name is Christopher and I am praying for each of these other ladies that shared prayer requests.

  33. I am reading and I go ‘Lord, you are sending me yet another word, directly for my situation,’. I have been feeling very much like running away from my struggles at work and relationally. Pray for me in that regard as I have been trying to discern where God is leading me at such a time as this. Thank you for this timely reminder to hold on and trust God to work it out.

    1. I too have been living this situation for quite some time now. You are right, it is very refreshing to see when God puts such a devotional so directly related to your current situation right in your face. It just goes to show that God is omnipotent. He sees all and He knows all. I pray that God opens your ears and your heart so that you can hear what He has to say and where He is guiding you to go. There is power in prayer especially when we prayer for each other. Please know that I am praying for you my dear sister in Christ.

  34. My prayer request: My 10 year old niece was diagnosed with AML M3- Acute ProMyelocitic Leukemia. LAst week friday. We live in Namibia. She started induction therapy. 8 days of heavy chemo. She isnt supposed to bleed, yesterday she bled.. Pray for us. For my aunt who raised her. So that circumstances do not move us. So, like you said, Fix our eyes on God’s promises and provision instead of on our problems. We are more than conquers, right?

    1. Father, I pray for this precious child. This disease is not a surprise to you. You know our beginning to our end. I ask right now, as the Great Physician, the God who heals, that you would touch this little one and heal her completely. Restore her to perfect health so that she might live to serve you and be a light to a dark world. Please be with Winnie and her family as they walk this path with this child. May they be a testimony to all the doctors, nurses and staff that come across their path. In Jesus might name, Amen

  35. Hi gwen and your amazing team. I really value your devotion on being wild for Jesus and hearing about the horse seabiscuit. A wonderful reminder of seeing God’s glory and strength in difficult times.
I would value prayer for my friend Lyndsey who has suffered for over three years from an insect bite that has stayed as a huge open painful leg wound that never seems to heal despite many medical treatments. It reminds me of the lady who suffered with a blood disorder for over 12 years but by touching Jesus’ hem was healed. I pray for her and hope she too will be healed and restored and know Christ’s love and faith too. Thank you x Leni

  39. Talk about Godly timing! Thank you for sharing that John Piper quote.
I had a recent very long hospitalization due to my Crohn’s Disease, hours from my home and family. I prayed unceasingly for God to grown me and show me his plans for me while there. In all my years of walking with CHRIST, I never felt closer to Him! He showed me pathways in which I could be used that if I wasn’t being “tamed” and confined to a hospital bed, I wouldnt have been able to see! The freedom that came from that tamingnhas allowed me to lead others to Him as well! So thankful for the trials and being able to be a conqueror!
Thanks for sharing your gifts in your blog! They were a daily part of my devotionals!

  40. I loved the daily devotion today. Your messages and prayers inspire me everyday. They lift me up when I am down. Can you please pray for my son Joshua Perales. He is having a very difficult time in his life right now. He is 25 and he did 4 years in the USMC. He has PTSD very bad and struggles with night terrors and sweats. He is very angry and treats our family not so good. He is also having satanic dreams about demonds clawing at him and trying to harm him. He has went to church with us to be prayed for and has a lot of people praying for him. We just don’t know what else to do for him. Thank you. Mona

  41. Hi Gwen! My cousin, Chrissy Dunn, was recently diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer. This news came one week to the day that we lost my husband’s aunt to pancreatic cancer. It was also 3 months to the day the we lost my father-in-law. One month to the day that I lost my job. My little family has dealt with so much loss this year but I have truly felt God’s presence and peace in so many ways. I recently had a job interview that went well and I may possibly be offered the position – but it would mean total relocation. We would love to live in the area of the job but want to be sure we aren’t pushing our desire over God’s will just because it’s a bright spot and exciting.

Please pray for wisdom to be given to us in our decisions right now. Please pray for my husband and his side of the family (and me and our little boy) during our time of grief over the loss of these loved ones. And please lift my cousin, aunt, Uncle and my other cousin (her brother) up to the Lord during this difficult time. She is only 46 and has three kids and a husband who loves her dearly.

    Thank you so much!!!!!
    Bridget

    1. Dear Gwen,

Thank you for GIG. I share GIG with my women bible study group almost everyday for years. Your stories are very uplifting and relates to our everyday life. Please continue your wonderful devotionals.

I have a special request to pray for my husband who is one of the owner of a private orthopedic practice. Because he is one of the owner (4 partners), they pay the employees first and the partners last. To the point, there is no money left for the partners. He has not been paid for 2 months. We are digging into our savings. Please pray for him to guide him whether to stay in the practice or go on his own.

      Thank you.
      Angie

  44. Thank you for these devotionals. It’s crazy, but about 3weeks ago I thought to myself that I’m so blessed to have a nice calm life. Everything seemed perfect, the like a piece of glass shattering, life is not so put together. While I have one daughter getting married, my other daughter is going through a divorce and she has one year old baby. So I ask for prayers for peace, to open my eyes and heart to what the Lord is showing us. Prayers for this wedding that is this weekend. Prayers for my other daughter who is trying to make a new life for her and her baby girl. Prayers asking the lord to continue showing me how to share theLord with my daughters and showing them how he shines in my life. I also ask for the babies father. He to is struggling. I ask for the Lord to control his temper and actions. Find peace in his heart. Thank you again and have a blessed day. Donna M. 8/12/15

  45. Please pray for peace of mind for my 5 year old granddaughter, her mom abandoned her at birth and just came back into her life and is wreaking havoc, I am believing God’s Grace for her to find consolation in him and a genuine relationship. One is trying desperately to have a child and my other daughter is suffering with brokenness and depression. I know God has a plan but please help me pray for God to bless my daughters.

  49. GIG has truly blessed my life and my quiet times in the mornings! I am a recovering addict and have almost two and a half years sober now thanks to God and his unfailing love! I found the Girlfriends in God blog right after getting out of rehab and have no doubt it was a God thing. My husband and I have a 7 month old and we are extremely financially strapped right now until he gets a raise at work in October. We could really use some prayer warrior women to help lift us up and get through the next couple months. It has been tough this year but we have made it through by constantly praying, reading the word and asking God for peace and strength. Everything will be okay as long as we continue to keep God first and foremost!

  50. Thank you so much for this encouragement today. I ask for prayers for my family and our resources. It seems as if we cannot get ahead financially. God is taking care of us. Please pray for me to not fear, for our marriage, and family as we try to work it all out.

  51. Thank you. This is what I needed to hear this morning. I am asking for prayer for my marriage. My husband isn’t speaking to me much and has told me he is done, that our issues are too far gone to mend and nothing I do or say can help that. He has said many other hurtful things and throws the past at me like it was yesterday. I am 4&1/2 months pregnant and know I have to limit my stress. I am trying to stay strong but yesterday was a tough one and found myself losing faith and really feeling lost and scared of the unknown. Prayers for my marriage and baby’s health would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Praying for you, Sommer! Praying specifically for your baby, renewal of your marriage, and strength for your pregnancy. God is with you!

  52. Please pray for me and my daughter we are both going back to college. My daughter is going into her Junior year at Adrian College and I’m going to Madonna University to get my Masters degree. Please pray we both do well in our classes this year.

  53. I am so glad i was blessed to find this GIG, every morning i read what you share, and a lot of the times it’s as if God is speaking to me thru what you’ve posted. But, still i fall short even though i feel like i could conquer the day after reading. My husband feels me with so much anger, and yes everyday i feel like giving in, and if i had the money to leave and be able to make it on my own i would. But everyday i trudge on and with God’s help and forgivness i get thru. Thank you for being there and lifting my spirit’s even for that short time.

  54. Please pray for me,,,I am struggling at work,I am behind in my paperwork (my fault). I am burnt out,,stressed n I am desperately seeking a job that I can Give God the glory in my passion!!!! I know God will work it out !!I am praying for strength to endure!! Thank you!!!!!

  55. I am so grateful that Father GD is always waiting with open arms to receive us! Never turning Away from us, never leaving or forsaking us. I have been so hard on myself the past month, being that I am between jobs and I’m having a really hard time even figuring out what I want to do in life. It’s like a mental stronghold that I haven’t been able to shake. Please pray for me as I am doing the same for you all. I thank GD for such brave GIG to share and encourage one another. Your posts literally moved me to tears. Thank you so much for your obedience Gwen and leading us all back into Father’s loving arms. You’re a Gem!

  56. Thank you for thsee words this morning, I really needed to hear this. My mom who is my best friend in the world was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 1 year ago and the chemo had been working but yesterday we got the news that the tumor has grown and they are looking at stopping chemo and that means I will loose my mom.I am trying to find peace in JESUS through all of this but it’s really hard so I ask that whoever reads this please pray for my mom and family.

  57. At this point in my life, I need all the prayers I can get. I am in a financial mess right now. I have been on disability since 2011. During this time, my three adult sons came to live with me and my youngest child who was in high school at the time. She is now in college. Then, one at a time, they lost their jobs due to medical issues and downsizing. I am asking for your prayers for my finances and for my faith. I am several months behind on my rent and my utilities. My credit cards are maxed out, because we used them to pay for everyday things, and are now being closed for nonpayment. Sometimes, things are so tough that I think I just can’t make it another day. I know this is the devil’s work. I look to God and realize I don’t need to make it another day because He makes it for me. I know I am blessed because Jesus is my savior and He would not allow me to deal with more than I can handle. Still, sometimes my faith wavers.

  58. Please pray for my husband and marriage that we will obey the Lord and be pleasing in his sight. Pray that my husband will stop running from the will of the Lord and instead run into his arms, I pray for healing for my family that 6 yr old our daughter may have a father and mother that fears and worships the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

  59. I appreciate this timely devotion. I am currently facing immigration applications and all the wonderful costs and uncertainties associated with it. God has blown the minds of people who have told me in the past what and what is possible by performing that very same impossible act in record time. This time around, my ability to work has been affected. Waiting is hard dear GiG! I am asking anyone who can and will to join me in prayer for this process, I want God to divinely speed up the process, to grant me favor in the eyes of those concerned and for the process to progress without difficulty. He exists outside our time constraints, and He is able! Have a blessed week everyone. I appreciate the prayers

  60. Thanks, Gwen. This is a very inspiring post for so many girlfriends in God for so many different reasons. I am most of all thankful to God Who saves and sanctifies us all safely in Christ Jesus’ Arms. Thank God for the faith and grace He has given us all in Christ for ourselves and our beloved in Jesus’ Name. Praise the LORD!!!

  61. I thank God for GIG and for the daily devotions. Our household was turned upside when our son lost his job. He lost his car and his house and has had to move home. Job interviews come and go with no job offers even though he has a very good resume and experience. Some days it is so hard to stay positive and I know satan exploits that. I ask for prayers to help us all stay focused on God,s plan for our lives and for our son to find where God wants Him to be. A great source of hope is Psalm 71:20-21. I believe God will redeem all He allows.

  62. Help! My daughter needs healing from ongoing yeast infection. We are working with doctors and can not get relief and permanent healing. We make progress then it back fires. She is on very powerful antifungals. We r very worried about her. We have been struggling with health problems for 6 years. It affects every aspect of her life.

  63. Lord, thank you for this blog, and for all those willing to
share, pray, and care for others.

I am asking for prayer for my family…it is broken into pieces. There are parents and children involved in this circumstance…some of whom have known the Lord and little ones who may or may not know. My concern is for them all. I know our Lord will carry us through this storm, and thank him for giving me that peace. Also, I believe where there are two or more we are stronger, so I ask you to pray.

Almighty Father, through you, Satan has no power or authority over our lives. I come to you and ask you to bind Satan and all his works. Carry this family out of the bondage they seem to be trapped in. Bring people across their path each day that would cause them to pause and reflect on the road they are on. Father, open the ears and eyes of those afflicted with the devils strong hold in their lives, so they may choose to come back to you father, and for those that do not know you yet have that opportunity. Thank you for giving me strength and the courage to ask others to pray for my family. Amen.

  64. Oh, just what I needed for today, with rhe perfect illustration that God has prepared me to hear today!

Pray for those you know who are in the doldrums, feel flat in their relationships, or that purpose and joy and abundant living is passing them by!

    4

  65. Blessings to all. By His stripes I am healed of adrenal fatigue! Leade oh Lord in the pathways you have for me. Help me to be patient in trials & joyful in the journey. Thankyou that You never leave me nor forsake me, that your plans for me are for good and not for evil. Thankyou that I can come to you with all my burdens & weariness & you will give me rest. Bless theLord oh my soul and all that is within me

  66. I know it’s nothing big at all, but I’m 19 years old and scared to get my driver’s license and push my way out of my little shell. I do have a goal for getting my license, but whenever I start to think about it, Satan starts whispering doubts and fears in my head. I know I was born to be wild, but right now, I feel like a timid little kid.

    1. Rebecca 2Timothy 1:7 says God has not given us a spirit of fear but of POWER and of love and of sound mind. You need to look this up in your Bible. Read various translations on the internet and do a study on it and finally memorize the verse until it is under your skin. There is freedom there for you. Freedom I God and freedom in having a drivers license! Go girl!

  67. Dear Lord thank you for always being by my side, blessing me with your words, and many blessings. I praise you Lord and love you for inspiring me to be the best I can be with what I have. I have COPD which causes me not able to breath well or move around much. I ask for prayers in help with my breathing so I may get out to enjoy my church, my family, my friends, and my life again. It’d hard sitting home day after day. I pray for my daughter as well who is in need of prayers. I can’t put here what it is but please life her to our Heavenly Father for healing and he brings her home. Thank You Gwen God Bless you and GIG, your daily devotional’s keep me going.

  68. Thank you for the daily devotions, they are inspiring and uplifting. My family and I just moved to Ohio, and I have been looking for a job for almost two months now. I am asking that you pray for job opportunities for me. Also, I am having anxiety attacks due to not being able to find a job. I ask for pray of peace and to be anxiety – free knowing that God’s grace will keep my family and I.

  69. Please pray for my daughter Sarah. She’s fell away from the Lord and into the corrupted world. She always had a grand love for the Lord and His ways and is now caught in the sinful webs. I’m not handling this right and though I’m strong in the Lord, I have no Spiritual friends that can help.

    1. Father God I ask that you give Annie peace that passes all understanding. Peace when she wakes up in the morning, peace when she goes to be at night. Peace when she interacts with members of her family and they ask her questions why and peace when she goes to work when her co-workers brag about their children. Peace when
she wants to cry and her heart is breaking. Peace that passes all understanding. Amen,

    2. Dear sister. I have a similar situation as you. I’m 10 years into waiting for her return to my life & the God she once knew & loved. I will stand in prayer with you. Love in Christ

  70. I am suffering from fibromyalgia and it has been getting worse. The pain has been unbearable for the last 2 months. More than anything I need to have the strength when I am so down to call on God’s word and His promises. Please pray this for me.

  71. My little 3-year-old daughter passed away almost three months ago, and I am struggling to see how God will bring good from that. I miss her so! And my marriage, which was shaky to begin with, is now REALLY hanging on by a thread. I want to be wild for Him, but I am just tired, sad, lonely, and did I mention sad? Please, Lord, I cling to your promise in Psalm 139:16 and in Romans 8:28 but I need help. I come to you with nothing left but faith.

    1. Danielle, I will keep you in my prayers. I pray you hold on to your faith at such a challenging time, when you need it most.

    2. Danielle, Ps 46tells us that God is our refuge and God is our strength A very present help in trouble. God’s good will come from within you. You said yourself you have nothing left but faith. You have it all Danielle and all you need is faith the size of a mustard seed that God will bring you through this time in your life. Sing praise dear one to the Lord most high and soon your countenance will change. Father I lift Danielle to You and I ask Lord that You draw her to you during this time. Father that she have a deeper desire to seek you and search your word. Father I also ask that you give this wounded heart peace that passes all understanding as no parent can understand the death of a child as well as you know Father. And Lord I ask that You send someone into her life that can minister to her locally. In Jesus name Amen

  72. God please have dominion over the enemy. I pray for strength for all these beautiful lives. Help me to stop hurting my precious daughter by staying sober once and for all. I believe in your power!

  73. Almighty God in Jesus name I ask that you will bless all these your precious daughters. Lord please draw near to each one and grant comfort love and peace in the midst of each circumstances. Father hear each prayer request I pray and strengthen each heart as they wait upon You Lord the answer to our prayers. Fills us with Your presence Holy Spirit, Amen.

Please pray for my relationship with Mark. That God will give me success by granting me favor with Mark. I have been through many hurtful relationships in the past. I would like this to work out. Thank you. God’s love and blessings!

  74. Dear Gwen, tonight we used Romans 8:37 as the memory verse for my son Jackson who is sitting for his A-level exams next semester and is leaving tomorrow at 6am for school. The verse has built my son’s confidence in Christ, amazing! He just went off reciting it! …more than conquerors…… I thank you for the daily devotional. My faith and that of my children has grown tremendously through this devotional. I have shared it with some of my girlfriends, it is just great. May the Lord pour double anointing upon you and your team to continue ‘feeding” us.

  75. Please pray for my son, David. He was diagnosed with HIV on July 1st. He says he has no idea where he could have acquired it. I am standing on God’s promises that my son is healed by the stripes of Jesus and ask that you agree with me! My heart is aching for my little boy. He is only 19 yrs old and has his whole life ahead of him. We serve a great big God who is bigger that HIV, so I proclaim and declare my sons’ healing, in Jesus Name. Amen.

    1. I stand in agreement with you that by the stripes of Jesus your son David is healed. Father God we come before you at a time where the doctors claim they know David’s diagnose, but we are standing on your word believing the report of the Lord. I ask that you anoint David’s body with oil and remove any “sickness” that tries to afflict his body. In the name of Jesus I pray Amen.

I am praying for you Miriam you are fearfully and wonderfully made by God girl don’t you ever forget that !!!

Lord, their needs are so great and I pray for all the children. Lord I can’t do this. I surrender to you, please work through me and love these people and show me how or if I am supposed to help them, lead the way.

Lord, I ask peace and comfort for Pam and clear leading as to how You will use her in this circumstance. I ask that YOU get in the mind and soul and heart of her son. Remove the cloudy thinking and remove those who are inspiring and instigating and leading him down the wrong pathway. Lord I ask You today to just make those people so irritating to Pam’s son that he cannot tolerate them or being with them any longer. Remove them from his circle of people. 89. I continue to work on seeing every obstacle in my life as an opportunity to look for God’s will. I switch my thinking from “I am not happy with this” to “God has a reason for me to go through this”. I am learning to be patient, accept, pray for guidance and wisdom and then move forward in a way!

  90. Thank you for the devotional it keeps me going even in the midst of trial. I need prayer for my husbands alcohol and tobacco addiction. He is a believer but cannot surrender the strongholds. Also his son is an alcoholic and he contributes to his sons addiction. I pray that my husband will be more than a conquerer in Christ! also prayer for my son and his depression!

  91. Gwen, I thank God for placing you and your blog, your devotional and your music into my path of faith. I am sending up prayers for love, light, and healing to every person who has posted here and everybody who comes to your site. I’d ask your prayers that God continue to guide me down the path to which He has called me and to make my heart a servant’s heart so I can be the wife, mother, daughter and disciple I was created to be. Blessings to all of you!

    1. Lord, I thank You for Shannon. We pray as the Psalmist did, “Show us Your ways, Lord, teach us your paths; guide us in Your truth and teach us, for You are our God our Savior and our HOPE is in You all day long.” (Psalm 25:4-5) Amen.

    2. Shannon I’m not THAT Gwen 🙂 but I want to re share a verse that has been a life verse since just turning 13–Psalm 16:11 ” You will show me the path of life. In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.”
So at 13 my path? Most different than now but He is leading. My life has changed dramatically and I realized, this too is His path. “Meditate on my Word day and night. ”
When I meditate–sit in a chair, take the verse I’m wanting to meditate upon–and repeat the first part, legs uncrossed, arms on arms of chair, eyes closed to better focus on the Word and as I begin to meditate on God’s Word, I feel tensions leave and the Scripture fills me. A friend also pointed out: do not skip sitting silent before The Lord. “Be still and know that I am God.” God speaks to us when we are still and take time to know that He is God.
May this verse and adding meditating on Gods Word and being still before Him help you grow and God will point out all the ways you are already pleasing Him! Blessings from the other Gwen

  92. Ism really struggling today. There out of four children are not believers. My youngest daughter is moving to another state with her daughters. I have taken care of her 5 year old daughter for a year. I have deep sorrow in not being able to continue the sharing of their lives. I will have little content with them. One of my granddaughters is in treatment for anorexia for the second time. My husband and I are having continual conflict. He was diagnosed 7 months ago with pancreatitis. He is having a difficult time with alcohol. He too is not a believer. I have prayed for over 15 years for my family. They still are cold to God.

    1. Oh, Lord, Please wrap your love and hope around Rella’s heart. Allow her to experience your comfort as she sifts through these struggles. Remind her that she is to be a vivid reflection of Your love and hope to her family so that they might see her good deeds and turn to you as a result. (Matthew 5:13-16) Give her grace to believe beyond her doubts and bring her marriage to a place of safety, healing and peace. Work deep in her heart and filter her responses, tones and choices through your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.

  93. Why do women in Christ go through so much never ending struggles? I totally understand the building our Faith concept but its just one thing after another. Aren’t we suppose to have these Victorious life TV evangelist preach about ? or is it a myth? I love God and trust His Word but in a practical everyday way I wonder if he really sees and hears my cries. I am begining to wonder if there will every be a phase in my life where these promises are fullfilled. Yes I hear you all saying “well to follow Jesus you have to take up your Cross and go through hardship. But surely there has to be some phases of a balanced life. Is it really suppose to be like this all the time until we meet Jesus? How am I to win others when my Chritian marriage is worse than theirs? My children go through more than thiers? My Sisters in Christ go through more than they do? The more years I serve Christ is the more trials and trouble I am experiencing. I am at the verge of giving up on it all. HELP ADVICE PLEASE.

    1. Thanks for sharing your heart and for posting such honest questions. I don’t have the answers, but I do know that the Bible clearly shows us that a victorious life is NOT a life void of problems. Instead, a woman of victorious life (one fueled and led by God’s Spirit and His Word) gains access to all she needs for every challenge from the storehouse of provision that the Lord make available to us. All the grace, strength, joy, endurance, perseverance, patience, faithfulness, dignity, peace… that is needed for any day, week, month, year, relationship, struggle or celebration. His promises are not found AFTER our challenges have past, but IN them as He meets us and helps us through them. His grace is in our marriage problems is evidenced when we react to provocation with a kind word instead of anger (Proverbs 15:1). His strength is found in His presence when we call out to Him and worship – thanking Him for His sovereignty and trusting Him to intervene in the lives of our children – beyond their rebellion and rejection of Him…(Psalm 84) Be encouraged, friend. This broken world is not our final destination.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Galatians 6:9-10)

Lord, Please give my sister a heaping measure of Your grace, strength and JOY today. Lift her chin. Renew her heart and mind. Remind Her of Your love… that You are El Roi – the God who SEEs her. That You are JEHOVA RAPHA – the LORD who heals. Bolster her faith and grant her the peace that is beyond understanding so she can bless her loved ones who are in desperate need of You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

      1. Dear Gwen. This is the first Christian blog I have ever received a reply of encouragement on from the author. I am at work at my computer in floods of tears for your kindness to take time to encourage a desperate broken vessel such as mine. Words cannot comprehend the gratitude I feel right now and how this response will change me life going forward. Your reward in heaven will be amazing for the souls fo women you have touched. I really needed this today and again am amazed to receive a response.

    2. My name is Shannon. I am feeling exactly how you are feeling right now. If someone could giveyou an answer it would help me too

      1. Girls, Thank you for sharing your honesty, I have these feelings often and I am sure many others have to. And as Gwen, THANK YOU , it is so heart warming to see you reaching out. I am so glad I have found these GIG today..I feel that was God lifting my chin, thank you.

  94. Please pray for me as I am journeying through the loss of my hubby, it’s only been 7 months since his going home to Jesus. I am very lonely for him and I know that I need to go to Jesus with this and Jesus will fulfill me. I know that Jesus loves me! Please keep me in prayer, thank you!

    1. I am praying……there are no words to heal, but I am praying for your peace and constant love and support. May you feel God’s presence on your heart. I ache for you.

  95. I have been struggling with weight issues as long as I can remember. It totally dominates my thought life. I go up and down. Last couple years mostly up. I am struggling with depression that just seems to make me gain more. There is no true joy or peace. I have a wonderful husband and two teenage boys. I am not the mom or wife I know I was meant to be. My heart is so heavy. I have been crying out to God daily. I can’t hear his voice. Please pray that I will hear His voice. Feeling so alone. I do a great job of faking everything is ok. In a job I absolutely don’t like, and don’t feel prepared to do. I had to return to work for the family finances. Most days I’m paralyzed. Please Lord take away these dark clouds and allow me to see the SON once again.

  96. My 33 year old daughter just came home after 45 days in rehab from her alcohol abuse. She relapsed 2 days later. She is for months pregnant and has a one year old and a two year old. I am so scared for the safety of my and don’t know what to do. I have passed and prayed and prayed for years but it seems hopeless. I have no peace in my life and neither do those babies. Please pray that Kristin will finally sober up.

  97. I am single parent of two daughters, 3 & 8 year olds. Please pray and agree with me for healing for us after a divorce, restoration, continued grace & face, a new career for me to be able to do ore than enough for our survival, and a new 3 bedroom place for us to call home.

More than anything please pray and agree with me to hear the audible voice of God in this time of my life.

  98. I read my devotionals every morning. I spend time with Gdd, thanking Him for another day, asking for forgiveness, guidance, and strength. I lay so much at His feet. Yet it’s only a matter of time during the day I pick it up again. It’s a vicious cycle that keeps me a prisoner of my own sin. I’m out of prayers and yearn for this ache I endure to be washed away. It’s like I’m paralyzed and so scared that I will continue to suffer in this bondage…

    1. Cast all of your cares on Him and rest. God knew what would happen before it happened. Let God be God, and you simply trust ad believe in Him, His promises, and power. Your best days still lie ahead of you.

      Be encouraged!

  99. I have borrowed and borrowed until im so far in debt i can’t see my way out. I feel stress and defeated. Please pray that I get out of this mess and learn how to do better with my finances.

  100. Please help me pray for my husband and our marriage of 10 years, a 2nd marriage, for both of us. It has been a very rocky road as he has been in depression all these years and has a hardened heart towards God and people. He is difficult to live with but I will not walk away because as your story states, he is banged up but God still cares. I need prayer for God to sovereinly move in him and change his cold heart. Thank you.

  102. Dear Lord, please help all these women who have come together in fellowship, united by Your common bond to seek Your Name, to be overcomers in their lives as they seek Your glory. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done here. Please help us to look past circumstances to your faithfulness, especially me when I fail. Please grant me guidance and make my paths straight. In Jesus’ holy Name, Amen!

  103. Hi. Just want to let you know that your blog was exactly what I needed to hear today. My fianceee an i have been dating for 4 years now. 3 years ago we had to leave University and move into different towns because of work but God has been so faithful with the long distance( 2 hours apart). But because of the new city he lives in, we struggled to find a good faith community for him and after a series of events he broke off the engagement. It felt like such an attack from the enemy, I wanted to forget about the whole thing but God kept speaking to me that I must pray for restoration in the relationship and for His son. It has been 3 months now and it felt like all hope is gone, but God literally brings it up in things like devotions and your blog, so thanks for being obedient to Him, and please do help me pray for God to restore my relationship and for stregth and patience on my side.

  104. I come asking for prayer for my first born granddaughter who is 28 years old and has a little boy who is the love of my life. I am heartbroken that on Monday she posted on Facevookmshe is in a lesbian relationship which tears me up and is so wrong as it plainly states in the bible. This little precious boy who I love so much does not have a Dad in his life and now this with his Mother. Please pray that God will intervene in her life to see this is wrong. My heart is heavy.

  105. I’m thankful and hopeful after reading this morning’s devotional. Our family of 8 has had 2 very difficult years with my husband struggling with depression and chronic pain from a car accident and he is unable to work. I often feel unloved and alone while raising 6 littles but I know that God is great and good and that this is a season and this too shall pass. We will be stronger and use this trail for the glory of God.

  106. I’m praising God at this morning for his promise. God has blessed my family to move from NJ to NC. My husband has been out of work, but recently received a job offer. The devil is trying his best to destroy this opportunity by bringing up his past which should have been taken care. I’m standing on Gods promise from Psalm 23 I will fear no evil. Please pray for my family as I know God is in control. Someone may have thought my husband was to damaged to keep, but our God is a forgiving who reigns over all circumstances. Thank you for this encouraging word.

    1. Lord, Thank You for being a God who restores and redeems… a God who makes all things new. Please move in this situation for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
