In this video devotional, I take you with me on a fun journey to my hair salon, but more importantly, I share some Biblical essentials that will spur you on toward spiritual growth and health. When we prioritize progress, we position ourselves to grow and heal.

SCRIPTURE REFERENCES

  • Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
  • Do all things without grumbling or disputing. (Philippians 2:14)
  • Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:3-4)
  • Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

LET’S GO DEEPER: Leave a comment below answering: What in your life that needs to change in order for you to experience health and growth? What is a new God-honoring behavior/choice that could bring growth and health to your situation?

  1. Hello Gwen,
Happy Easter and spring from San Diego! I struggle with trusting God when it comes to my family, specifically my 4 children. Consequently, I’m have become very controlling and over protective! I’m starting to learn to visualize myself walking my children individually at the foot of HIS throne daily so that I know that HE is the ONE in control of my kids…it’s not easy but I’m seeing a little bit of small changes that really encourage me to continue to do this daily…thank you for being transparent, God bless. Are you heading down San Diego this year? Would so love to have you speak at my church (Skyline Wesleyan)!

    Blessings,
    Leni Bartolome

    1. Hi Leni,

This is great stuff. Parenting brings us many, many, many opportunities to pray and trust God, doesn’t it? 😉 Thanks for sharing your heart and struggles.

I will be in California next month for a retreat. Check my Schedule page for details. Warning: there could be some zip-lining going on between sessions!

  2. Hi Gwen, I miss you my sister. I love doing life with you on a daily basis and I share your links all the time to encourage my circle of friends to become a part of your circle of friends. Growth is difficult but continue on in Him. God WILL grow us in our brokenness and grow us closer to Him. Thank’s for your encouraging words. Can’t wait to get your new book that is coming out from you girls. May the Lord continue to minister to multitudes through HIS ministry in my GIG’s.

  3. Thank you for sharing depth from a practical perspective, something most of us girls can relate to…our hair. As I listened, some deadends came to the surface and I have taken the step to write them out, and now will seek scripture to daily read/pray to increase the life of HIS Word and overcoming power in me, over them. Thank you for being transparent, real and touchable. I thank GOD on your behalf for the grace given you by Jesus Christ.

  4. As a seventy-something, I greatly identified with your description of followers as “lifelong learners.” That phrase captures both the humility and reality of Christian living. For example, I am just learning that when I speak, I need to speak with the right tone of voice. What you say is important, but also how you say it. With the wrong tone, I would say something not at all meant as criticism, but it would still be taken as criticism because of my tone of voice. IAs a reminder, I think I’m going to have to take a magic marker and write a “t” on the palm of my hand (for “tone”) until I have learned to get in the right tone of voice before i speak.

    1. Oh, Walter! You are SO speaking my language. Tone is so important and such a toughy. I’m blessed to hear how the LORD quickened this to your heart and am delighted to meet another life long learner! 🙂 Blessings from NC.

  5. Thank you Gwen for this Vlog! This was right on time! I know there is room for improvement in each of these areas you talked about today from worrying to much (primarily lately about my relationship with God and if I’m doing enough/pleasing Him, etc) which moves me to the area of selfishness because I’m focusing too much on me and not enough on Him. I’ve found the moment you THINK you’re selfless is enough is the moment when you’re back on the path of selfishness!Food has been a really big thing for me lately, I just want to eat everything in site although I prayed and changed my habits and dropped a considerable amount of weight…I needed this word today to remind me to stay accountable and honor the body God has given me because though I am using it, this body belongs to God and I have a charge to keep it healthy that I am able to do all He asks me to do. Finally, though I don’t complain a lot outwardly, I can’t say the same for my private thoughts…this goes back to the whole selfish thing and thinking about myself, I often find me grumbling about this or that internally – or even going as far as saying no one ever appreciates this or that or sees how hard I work…blah blah blah…LOL! This was a breath of fresh air and an answer to the prayer I wrote out last night. God used to to reply to my prayers 🙂 Thank you! And may God bless you and your ministry!

    1. Hi Trista! Thanks for sharing, friend. Now that you have identified these areas that are your dead ends… I want you to find Scripture verses that would direct you toward behaviors that would honor God and position you for growth and health. Yay! Homework!! 🙂 Try to get back to me with three or so… Blessings!

  6. Well happy spring to you from your hometown where it is definitely not springlike today as we woke up to 5 inches of snow!!! I too love my hair day but mine is even better because my hair stylist is my beautiful daughter!!! My struggle is with fear and what if’s. I come against those with God’s word on a daily basis.

    1. Hey Donna! That rocks about your daughter doing your hair! That would save me so much money!! LOL 🙂 Keep moving in the courage of Christ. Read and memorize 2 Timothy 1:7. He’s got this one!

  7. Happy Spring!! I struggle with anxious feelings and worry about my 2 daughters. My oldest daughter is 12. she will not talk to anyone. I pray for her everyday to be able to connect to others but no change. I feel helpless to help her She has no friends. Gwen We are BFF because I had my hair highlighted. 🙂 I feel like a new person on the outside! I had surgery 6 weeks and it has left me depressed because I have to ask for help from my family. God Bless and Thank you for sharing and listening to me. I wish we could do lunch sometime!! I live in Ohio.

    1. Hi, Venice! I caught your BFF high five, girl. 😉 Keep praying through your struggles and BELIEVE that the Lord will provide the strength, dignity and joy that you need for each moment. Two Scriptures for you: Psalm 105:4 and Proverbs 31:25. Look them up… learn them… live them!
