MY THOUGHTS on COLOSSIANS TWO:

Stop-me-in-my-tracks verses:

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6-7)

“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:13-14) THANK. YOU. JESUS!!!

A RESPONSIVE PRAYER:

Lord, Thank you for your Word! Help us to encourage one another in heart and to be united in love so that we can have the full riches of complete understanding in order that we may know the mystery and majesty of Christ. Grow us in your wisdom and lead us by your Spirit. Help us to live today fully rooted and strengthened in You, Lord. We give you thanks – deep thanks – for your love, your forgiveness of our sins, for your grace and for your power which is made perfect in our weakness. You surely are an awesome God! As we seek you, Father, let us be found in the beauty and restoration of Christ. In Jesus’s name, amen.

WORSHIP RESPONSE:

Thanks for doing life with me! Can’t wait to hear how the LORD moves in you through this challenge.

Warmly in Christ,

Gwen

  1. Colossians rocks!! Love my Lord. I don’t have to live like the world. I belong to Jesus. His instruction precept upon precept.

  2. Colossians Rock!!

Let your roots grow down deeply in Him, and let Him build you up on a firm foundation. Be strong in the faith, just as you were taught, and always spill over with thankfulness. 8 Make sure no predator makes you his prey through some misleading philosophy and empty deception based on traditions fabricated by mere mortals.

  3. Colossians Rocks!! This is a prayer for knowledge and insight that only can come from God.

Father, may they clearly know Your will and achieve the height and depth of spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 May their lives be a credit to You, Lord; and what’s more, may they continue to delight You by doing every good work and growing in the true knowledge that comes from being close to You. 11 Strengthen them with Your infinite power, according to Your glorious might, so that they will have everything they need to hold on and endure hardship patiently and joyfully. 12 Thank You, Father, as You have made us[d] eligible to receive our portion of the inheritance given to all those set apart by the light. 13 You have rescued us from dark powers and brought us safely into the kingdom of Your Son, whom You love 14 and in whom we are redeemed and forgiven of our sins [through His blood].[e]

  4. Colossians Rocks!
Verse 6 tells us to “walk in him” and to be “abounding in thanksgiving”. We shouldn’t just receive him but continue to grow in His love.

  5. Colossians ROCKS!
WOW how do I begin to chose just one passage when they all seemed to have jumped out of my heart and onto the pages before I even opened my bible this morning. So much of the readings today is what I just have recently experienced with my baptism but if I had to chose one it would be: Colossians 2:3 He is the key that opens all the hidden treasures of God’s wisdom and knowledge. Until I found Jesus I never knew such love, forgiveness, peace, happiness and true friendship. My life has opened up into a world I could’t have ever imagined and it is all because at my brokenness He unlocked the door and grabbed my hand and said let me show you the way – My Way! Everyday when we wake He has a new treasure to share with us that only He can do.

    1. Welcome Sister to the family of God. I know what you mean. I am nothing without him but everything with him. I can’t do nothing without him but I can do everything with him. He is my rock my stong foundation.

  6. Colossians 2:6-7 (the message) My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving.you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving.

This verse spoke to my heart this morning. I need to continue to LIVE what I know! God has blessed us with His Son and we need to put off the things that hinder us and LIVE the life He has so sacrificially given us. Colossians ROCKS!!

  7. Colossians rocks.

2[I want] their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding, and have the knowledge of God’s mystery-Christ.3In Him all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden.

The Bible holds all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge..Lord enlighten me help me to seek your guidance and to find ways to put into action all that your Holy Spirit whispers in my heart that i may give you glory..

  8. “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ.” 2:9 God’s LIFE in my life for wherever I go and whatever I do, His power, my strength! Thank you Lord, for this reminder!

  9. Colossians Rocks! The verse that stopped me in my tracks and I hope it continues to-“…so that they may be encouraged by all the riches that come from a complete understanding of Christ. He is the mystery of God. God has hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge in Christ. I say this so that no one will mislead you with arguments that merely sound good.”-2:2-4
I live in a happy home, but as the sole Christ follower at this point. My teenage son once believed and I believe with my whole heart that He will return to His faith, but, for now he just wants to argue me out of mine. Paul encouraged me! I can stand firm because I am His and He will supply the wisdom and knowledge of the words to speak and of when to speak them. For now, I rest in them.

  10. Colossians ROCKS!!! Here us my verse!!
My purpose is Taft they may be encouraged in heart
And united in love, so that they may have the full riches
Of complete understanding , in order that they may know
The mystery of God, NAMELY, CHRIST, in whom are
Hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge !!
    So lovin this verse!!
Be the light so others will be drawn to you and soon learn
The LIGHT in you is that of CHRIST our LORD AND SAVIOR!!

  11. Colossians Rocks! It has so many
wonderful lessons for us! Today, for me, it was verses 8-10: “Beware lest
anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the
tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according
to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and
you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” It speaks to me of how much we need to be grounded in the Word, so that we won’t be led astray; and how Christ is enough to fulfill all our needs in every area of our lives. In HIM dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily–HE IS GOD!!!

  12. COLOSSIANS ROCKS!! Great afternoon I read yesterday and Colossians 2:9 For in Christ there is all of God in a human body; 10 so you have everything when you have Christ, and you are filled with God through your union with Christ. The more I grow in Christ I see how HIS blessings are poured out in my mind through WISDOM and understanding of how HE wants me to be. Satan surely likes to throw his weapons at me BUT verse 12 For in baptism you see how your old, evil nature died with him and was buried with him; and then you came up out of death with him into a new life because you trusted the Word of the mighty GOD who raised Christ from the dead. This verse reminds me how GOD takes those chains off completely if we just believe what HIS BLOOD represents. I LOVE JESUS

COLOSSIANS ROCKS Thursday as well as yesterday 🙂
COLOSSIANS 3:10-12 Reminds me of when God called on me and I EXCITEDLY responded in obedience back in 2001 as a child of GOD! Verse 12 Since you have been chosen by GOD who has given you this new kind of life, and because of his deep love and concern for you, you should practice tenderhearted mercy and kindness to others. DON’T WORRY ABOUT MAKING A GOOD IMPRESSION ON THEM BUT BE READY TO SUFFER quietly and patiently.13 Be gentle and ready to forgive; never hold grudges. It is utterly amazing and awesome when we share GOD’S WORD especially with family that when we pray for oneanother GOD reveals how we are on the same page.
I shared COLOSSIANS challenge with her and she is also reading through and so she told my brother and the other night when church members gathered around for some prayer Pastor said when you leave tonight I would like you to read COLOSSIANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD is awesome that is all I can say about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Much Love, Diane

  13. Colossians rocks!!! And the verse that stood out to me is kind of about building life on the Rock – verse 7: “Plant your roots in Christ and let him be the foundation for your life. Be strong in your faith, just as you were taught. And be grateful.” I’m not always great at this – trusting Jesus with my future and being grateful.

  14. Day 2, I feel like I just opened up a treasure case and the precious words of God is flowing out. My heart is being fill with God’s enticing words, the truth, the love, the guidance, the care, and inclusiveness. Praise God! Thank You Jesus! “I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Col. 2:2-3 (NIV)

  15. “The worship of angels” resonated with me as there is a lot of that in these days. We are to worship none but the living God!

  16. Colossians Rocks! And it was a long day yesterday! I love that Paul was expressing to these believers how much he longed for them: to be encouraged, knit together in love, to have full assurance of understanding and knowledge of Christ. He made it clear he did not want them to be fooled by plausible arguments but to seek Christ as their assurance. I was struck by the fact that Paul had never met many of these people face to face, yet he was pouring out to them in prayer and in this letter (“how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face”…) May I be willing to do that for other believers. May I pour out my prayers for them before God as He leads me and encourage them and build them up in their faith….even if I have never met them face to face…even if I know nothing other than what God has laid upon my heart.

  17. GOD is so incredible. He went to such lengths to make us righteous. We are so loved, it is beyond what my mind can grasp. Thank you so much LORD!!! I stand in awe of you, and just want to know you more, to love you more, to be what you have created me to be…..

  18. Colossians Rocks! Colossians 2:5 For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. He is with us always.

  19. Thanks Gwen for the invitation for the colossians journey. I will not be condemned!!!! The enemy wants that and I praise God for saving me and forgiving me years ago for my past. My past has been before me for the past 2 yrs and I still said Lord i thank you.

  20. Though I be absent in the flesh yet I am with you in the spirit … Even in our darkest hour God I always right there. He will never leave us. We just have to have faith and BELIEVE

  21. Colossians does indeed Rock!! I am struck by vss 2 and 19. God has been dealing with me lately about corporate and individual worship. We are each part of one body – the body of Christ. We are to be worshiping as one, not in our own little worlds – reminded that each one is very important and necessary to the whole. I am still pondering how this might work. God is so very good!!

  22. Colossians Rocks! Just finished chapter 2 reading and one, very powerful verse stuck out to me – “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” Col. 2:15, NKJV. The world of unbelievers has already been defeated in Christ Jesus – He embarrassed them publically and now we can shout victory!

  23. Colossians Rocks! I think verse 17b … the substance belongs to Christ. … the reality belongs to Christ … the body that casts the shadow belongs to Christ – pretty much sums up chapter 2. It IS NOT about us it is about HIM!

  24. “COLOSSIANS ROCKS” 2:5
For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in the Spirit,
rejoicing to see your good order and steadfastness of your faith in Christ.

Lord Jesus, I am thankful that you are living within us and our hearts
from the day we have accepted you as our LORD AND SAVIOR.
You have given us forgiveness and it is by your grace we live, Please
help us to keep in Your Word, and to Stand firm in our faith in our
Lord Jesus Christ.. help us to remember that we are on a journey home
and that Jesus is and will be with us hand in hand at our side.Remind us
He will never leave us nor forsake us.. let us remember the prize and reward
waiting for us at the finish line… in Jesus name … Amen

  25. Praises for wisdom and knowledge which comes from seeking Christ first and by being obedient…and for His Provision of the indwelling Holy Spirit…so thankful for His sacrificial love for us. I am always in awe of this…so thankful He is not done with me yet! So…I guess vs. 2-3 struck me today! Colossians Rocks! I am always asking for wisdom…in hope that my own emotions will not sway my words or actions. It’s not always the external which causes me stumble…but, more of the internal…

  26. There are many things that can captivate us and seem inocently deceptive in this world – we need to make sure we are rooted and build ourselves in Christ who is the head and we strengthen our faith in him and not what the forces of the world says to us. Colossians 2 6-10

  27. Colossians Rocks! I am forever grateful for the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. I want to learn to respond quicker to His nudges and urgings. Verse 8 tells me that I am to listen more to Jesus than what others are telling me I need to do to be accepted by Him. I Follow Jesus!

  28. Same verses for me today Gwen.
I like the way this version says verse 7: Sink your roots in him and build on him. Be strengthened by the faith that you were taught, and overflow with thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:7 GWT). Sink your roots in Him! I love that!

  29. vs2. Our hearts may be encouraged. I love encouraging others and being encouraged too! God’s love!
vs.2 knit together in love. God wants us all knit together!! That’s awesome!
vs.2 reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding & knowledge of Gods mystery – Christ. I love how God has given the full assurance of knowing Jesus!!!
vs.18 Let no one disqualify you. No b/c in Chpt.1 it says we are qualified!!!
vs. 21 Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch all things that perish.
Sounds like the instructions give to Adam & Eve in Genesis!! Flee all these things!!!!

Love all these truths and instructions!!!
    Thank you God!!!!!

  30. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. (Colossians 2:8 NIV). This speaks to me because I have been having a conversation with a catholic about those extra books in the bible. And i am trying to understand if it is biblical or not.

  31. Verse 2 “I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God.” Wow I love that! I want to be in touch and I want others to feel into too!

  32. Verses 2-4 spoke to me today. Through Christ we find our treasures, wisdom and knowledge, that keep us strong against the deceit of the world.

  33. I guess I struggle with enjoying a glass of wine at dinner or by the pool when on vacation. My denomination says no alcohol at all!!! I know some don’t agree with this. I am married to an unbeliever who enjoys having a few beers here and there. In these scriptures it says Dont let anyone tell what you must eat or drink; 21. Dont handle this or dont taste that, dont touch this. Obeyeing these rules may seem to be the smart thing to do. They appear to make you love God more and to be very humble and to have control over your body. What am I missing. I know that we are to do nothing to excess. I fear taking this in part and not the whole…is it because of the way I was taught by the church? I do not drink at home or even out to dinner but my hubby and I do like a drink at dinner and by the pool. And it’s never more then 2. So confused as to what is right. I know that I would not do it if I were in the presence of someone who had a problem with drinking, so that I would not be responsible for them falling. What is the “Truth” in all of this? In my 60’s and still so confused over this one area.

    1. Kathy, I have struggled with this also. I think the key word in your comments is, ” your denomination” . What does The Word say? We must rely on the Holy Spirit to enlighten the scripture for us. Find an opportunity to tune in to The Spirit as you read The Word. He will either assure your direction or turn you towards a new path!

      1. Thank you, as I am trying to not take His Word in part but the whole.. I know that if God asked me straight up to not do this, I would stop in a minute but confusion can trip you up and bring on guilt, that has been “learned”. I don’t want to trip up anyone else who may believe differently. Nor do I want to persuade another of it being right or wrong in their own case. Id rather have an iced tea in their presence so as not to cause them to be conflicted. Ive made this choice on my own by searching all I could find and my conclusion, I beleive, is not wrong but feeling I have to hide, in order to be sensitive to those around me, confuses me. Im glad it’s not often that I have to worry about it. My biggest concern is “am I creating my own religion to suit my needs” or am I being obedient by not over indulging and being sensitive to those around me. Thanks for your reply and Im sorry if you have struggled also, but to allow the holy Spirit to lead moment by moment is the best we can do and heed the call in the moment. God Bless You and Thank you

    2. Hi Kathy, I too agree to let the Holy Spirit lead you as Jesus does not condemn us & neither should you. He convicts us when we’ve sinned. He gently reveals to us areas in our lives where He’s not in control. God is not a God of confusion but of order & peace. His peace surpasses all our understanding.

  34. 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.—-

Praying these verses for our 13 year old daughter today. She is starting high school in our local public school after 3 years of homeschooling and 5 previous years of attending a very small Christian school. She switched to homeschooling due to a particularly painful experience with a peer.

  35. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[d] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.[e
Wow…. how He loves us and cares for us. This verse got me this morning.
