What You and the Royals Have in Common

Gwen SmithBlog, Royalty, Worth 16 Comments

It was shockingly early when the alarm clock invaded my dreams, screaming at me to wake up that morning. Even the sun was still sleeping as I rose. With heavy eyelids and a groggy mind, I crawled out from beneath the cuddly warmth of my bed and ventured downstairs.

The kids had set their alarm clocks as well. We trickled down, one sleepy Smith at a time, and met in our jammies for the big event. It was April 29, 2011. Prince William and Catherine Middleton were about to be married and we were giddy-excited to watch it live from the cozy comfort of our living room couch.

It was worth the early wake-up just to see the hats that the women wore. They were so elaborate! Some were even a bit bonkers. As the wedding guests filed into the church, the kids and I chatted non-stop about the dresses the women wore, the celestial music that sang throughout the cathedral, and the ornate beauty of Westminster Abbey.

As Kate made her way down the aisle, my eyes leaked joy. There’s just something special about a bride’s walk down the aisle that messes with my makeup.

The ceremony was magic. Brimming with Scripture and promise. Meaningful vows were exchanged and before we knew it, the bride and groom were married.

Regal smiles lit up our living room as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge emerged as husband and wife and made their way to Buckingham Palace for the royal reception hosted by Her Majesty the Queen. They waved jubilantly to the tens of thousands of well wishers along the road as the world celebrated with them.

Royalty is fascinating.

We love the regal bells and whistles with all of the fairytale happenings. Yet, for all the fanfare that royal families bring to society, many reigning monarchs have very little political power. Most earthly kings and queens don’t establish laws or truly rule the people as royalty once did.

God’s not like earthly kings.

He’s a King with power.

He’s the King of kings!

Supreme in authority, He rules from a heavenly throne that is illuminated by His glory. With matchless majesty and lavish love. Think about it. The King of kings who reigns on high bends low to wipe our grit with His grace.

He’s not a distant, non-feeling ruler who pats us on the head and graciously allows us to be His humble servants. Ours is a strong King, like no other. And yet in all of His might, the royal Redeemer gives us full access to the intimate chambers of His presence. We can confidently approach the throne of grace because of the finished work of Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 4:16) He’s both powerful and personal.

Scripture is filled with rich praise for our King of kings:

The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. (Psalm 103:19)

No one is like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power. Who should not revere you, O King of the nations? This is your due…. But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. (Jeremiah 10:6-7,10)

How awesome is the Lord Most High, the great King over all the earth! (Psalm 47:2

But you, O Lord, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations. (Psalm 102:12)

Are you experiencing the power of the King of kings in your life?

Do you know the freedom of forgiveness?

God loved you so much He made a way for you to have a fresh start in life through Jesus. A fresh start, a clean heart and a royal inheritance.

Such love and grace should make us all leak with joy.

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. (1 Timothy 1:17)

Holy God,
King of kings, You are more glorious and powerful than I can possibly imagine! Thank you for crowning me with grace through Jesus Christ. Thank you that grace is enough. All glory and honor be to You, Lord!
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

FOR YOUR REFLECTION and RESPONSE

Read 1 Peter 2:9, ESV: But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

If you’re a Christian, who does this verse say you are? Do you live like that’s who you are? Should you? What does the verse say you are supposed to do because of who you are? Write a comment or prayer of response on the wall of my blog.

Honored to do life with you, friend!

  3. God,

As one of your royal children as you’ve mentioned in Your Word in 1 Peter 2:9 (ESV), if I can do anything, despite my illness, I want to grow closer not only to You Father, but to all of my brothers and sisters in Christ under Your Name Jesus. I want to make You proud and happy, Lord, and I pray that everything I do is the “Right Thing” in Your Eyes. Father, thank you for always being there for me and seeing things in me that I, myself, couldn’t recognized years ago… until now. I pray that all of my sisters in this study will continue to stay strong, be blessed, and continue to seek comfort under your wings.

This is my prayer, in Jesus’ Name, Amen!

  4. Dear Lord,

You know my dark times that you have brought me back to the light! Thank you for treating me like royalty when I didn’t feel deserving. Grant me the strength to continue shining your royal light in your precious name.

    Amen

  5. The Bible verse about Royal Priesthood says to me that Christians are more than special…we’re Royal, and that’s exceptionally special. It says to me that we don’t act any ol’ kind of way but that we carry ourselves showing love and joy and behavior that is pleasing to God. Lastly, that we talk about and share about our Lord and Savior Jesus and help others to accept and know Him as Savior, too. We are to be about our Father’s business. What a privilege! 🙌🏽👑💜

  6. We are chosen by God and We are his possession🙌🏻💜We are to proclaim his Excellencies because We are In his Royal Family. We should be acting as such everyday, God chose each and every one of us, We are adopted into the most famous royal highness of all time

  7. Oh Heavenly Father, please guide me in your fortress! I want to be a good Christian women, but often get sidetrack. I know you protect me and and need to walk in your faith!

  8. That I belong to the priesthood of believers verse helped me realize I do not have to go to a priest to get to God ! I can go directly to him . I am as important to him as what I used to think we’re “official” priests! I am an “official” priest.

  9. Lord,
Please allow me to remember who I am in you in all things. God, I surrender my words, my actions and my gifts to you, so that I can walk in your word.
In the mighty name of Jesus,
    Amen
